When questioned he will tell the truth – he will not continue to cover up with a lie.
He will monitor his time and begin a task when asked. He gets ready for school and gets up with an alarm.
He follows 3 step directions.
He completed his math class two days early (obtained 87% in class / 80% on finals/ 71% in class)

He is so proud of himself for his grades.  He says “That’s the old person. I’ve outgrown that”.

Daughter can Focus - Drake Institute Review http://www.drakeinstitutereviews.com/index.php?p=/discussion/5/daughter-can-focus-drake-institute-review Sat, 17 Sep 2011 15:56:09 -0400 kramer 5@/index.php?p=/discussions Our daughter incorporates “Drake” focus exercises to maintain concentration on algebra exams and during gymnastics training.  She is performing well on math assessments: fewer careless errors.

We have observed increased willingness to manage tasks independently. Pride associated with successfully completing task.  Increase interest in independent reading and ability to understand / comprehend material first time through. Able to recall material on audio book.

The autistic girl http://www.drakeinstitutereviews.com/index.php?p=/discussion/2/the-autistic-girl Sat, 21 May 2011 16:43:11 -0400 autisticgirl 2@/index.php?p=/discussions At the age of three, our family member was diagnosed with Autism and with an Auditory Processing disorder. It was hard to believe that this lovely little girl who was so bright and so good, had suddenly stopped communicating, had developed horrible behavior (ADHD symptoms); and had meltdowns whenever something was upsetting, etc. Dr.’s wanted to medicate her for her very anti social behaviors but we said no. A few years later we started with the Drake Institute.

Before attending Drake, going to a restaurant was a nightmare. We would get the glare from surrounding booths. Thanks to Drake, she now orders off the menu or reads a book until food arrives - and we get smiles!

Christmas was also a nightmare because the music bothered her and she wanted to open everyone’s gifts (she had meltdowns when she was told “no” to opening the gifts. This year she was Santa and took gifts to individuals.

The program at Drake did wonders for V.’s inability to process language. She now has been in plays, and does a great job. She can carry on meaningful conversations; she continues to excel in the classroom and loves school.

I could go on and on…………… We will always be grateful to Drake for helping our family member become the best she can be. Dr. Velkoff and his staff changed her life and ours. A HUGE thank you.

coming to an end http://www.drakeinstitutereviews.com/index.php?p=/discussion/1/coming-to-an-end Sat, 21 May 2011 16:33:46 -0400 stephen 1@/index.php?p=/discussions Now that our time at Drake is coming to an end, I reflect on where we stated and how far we have come. We came to drake for help with our daughter who had been diagnosed with ADHD, ODD and Tourette’s Syndrome. We were becoming “stressed out” and were at a loss about what to do to help her and our family. We were determined not to put her on drugs. We started our research and discovered Drake on the internet. We came to the private orientation, and although we were a bit skeptical, we decided to give it a try. We actually saw improvement after the first session! The other day I said to my husband, you don’t realize how much improvement we have seen in our daughter until you begin took at the “little things” – these things that people take for granted, that we did not have before Drake, but that we now enjoy and appreciate because of Drake:

Sitting down the entire times at eh dinner table and conversing with family
Winding down on the couch with the family at the end of the day
Playing monopoly as a family
No more hitting her sister
More focused at school and not distracting other students
Feels bad when she hurts others
Much less impulsive
Ability to go out and eat in a restaurant
Ability to go on long car trips
Doing homework without a fight
Tics- almost not apparent
Accepts the word “NO”
Harmony in our home.

And another good thing is, although we have pretty much eliminated the undesirable behaviors, we still kept the best part about our little girl – she is a happy, joyful child and she hasn’t lost her outgoing social nature nor her creativity.

Our daughter really enjoyed her time at Drake and was sad that had to end. Our whole family would like to extend our appreciation to Dr. Velkoff for providing this wonderful solution to families. We would also like to thank the entire staff at Drake for always being very supportive, friendly and professional.

Testimonial for L.G. about The Drake Institue http://www.drakeinstitutereviews.com/index.php?p=/discussion/3/testimonial-for-l.g.-about-the-drake-institue Sat, 18 Jun 2011 14:34:59 -0400 L 3@/index.php?p=/discussions Our daughter is able to initiate and complete “most” of her homework independently
since coming to Drake Institute She will only ask for help on some math problems. Her social
studies teacher said she was able to finish a test before many other students – she
usually needs to finish during her lunch break. She has been completing tasks after only
one request vs. three or four. When she is called from another room, she comes on first
request.

“L” used to sit with parents and not with other children when we attend a parent meeting
–now she will go to the back of the room and will sit with her classmates.

At a graduation ceremony, “L” started dancing the shuffle with an 18yo. cousin (in front
of a large crowd) - she would never do this before due to shyness. AND, she has been
over to two different girl friends’ houses to play on two occasions.
